Nostalgia and science fiction come together in Commodore's new project. The legendary personal computer brand has joined forces with CD Projekt Red, the creators of Cyberpunk 2077, to launch a special edition of its Commodore 64 Ultimate. The result is the Commodore 77 , a machine that pays homage to both the past and future of video games.

This device, unveiled during Opening Night Live 2026, is not a simple clone. It's an enhanced version of the C64 Ultimate, with a design reminiscent of the Night City universe and more powerful hardware . Fans of the series will be able to relive the 8-bit experience with a cyberpunk twist, and all signs point to it becoming a highly sought-after collector's item.

Design and hardware: a hybrid between 1982 and 2077

Commodore 77 design

The Commodore 77 is hard to miss. Its casing combines a distinctive Cyberpunk 2077 yellow finish with metallic details, LED lights, and graffiti reminiscent of the walls of Night City. Even the power indicator glows with a neon light. All of this makes it look like it came straight out of the game, yet it retains the essence of a 1982 computer.

Inside, the AMD Artix XC7A100T FPGA runs at 77 MHz, a significantly faster speed than the original 1 MHz processor. This allows for near-total compatibility with the more than 10.000 C64 games and peripherals, as well as opening up new possibilities. The system includes HDMI output, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and a microSD card reader, so it can be easily connected to modern displays.

The pre-order price is €323,06 (excluding VAT) or €391,16 including VAT . Pre-orders are now open, although the first batch sold out quickly. The second batch will ship starting in February 2027. Christian Simpson, head of Commodore, explained that the collaboration stems from the idea that "the most secure technology is sometimes the oldest," referring to the freedom offered by the original C64.

Patrick Mills of CD Projekt Red emphasized that the Commodore 77 "feels like a device ripped straight from the gaming world." The Polish company saw this project as an opportunity to unite two generations of gamers, and initial reviews suggest it will be a hit with collectors.
