Relatively recently, just a few weeks ago, the United States government decided to declassify a new batch of documents. These documents contain evidence supporting the U.S. Department of Defense's belief that Russia has finally launched the rumored, and feared, Status-6 Multi-Purpose Oceanic System —a program through which Russia has developed nuclear-capable underwater drones.
Considering the document to which we refer, it can be read:
These efforts include numerous modernizations of all phases of the Russian nuclear triad of strategic bombers, marine launch missiles and land launched missiles. Russia is also developing at least two new intercontinental range systems: a hypersonic gliding vehicle and a new nuclear-armed submarine autonomous intercontinental torpedo.
The US Department of Defense is confident that the Russian Status-6 Multi-Purpose Ocean System is developed and operational
Although this document might have gone unnoticed, its discovery has raised concerns among many analysts. It's important to remember that this is a program that has been in production for approximately 10 years, and it's the same program that developed drones capable of carrying 10-megaton nuclear warheads.
According to the cited report, the Status-6 appears to be a project undertaken by the Rubin Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering in St. Petersburg, Russia's largest submarine builder. The drone itself reportedly has a range of nearly 10.000 kilometers , a top speed of 56 knots, and a diving depth of up to 1.000 meters.
