With the support of the Department of Electronics of the San Francisco Regional Faculty of the UTN and the collaboration of the Municipality, a new edition of the robotics workshop for students of the last years of secondary school, a practical and open proposal that seeks to bring technology closer to the classroom.

The activity is free and with limited places (60), and is designed for students to experiment with hardware and software in a guided manner. The course will be held at the San Francisco Technology Library (Bv. 9 de Julio 1700) with an agile and applied format.

What the workshop offers

The objective is for each team to design, program and implement a minisumo robot as a closing of the itinerary. To do this, participants will work on mixed groups of up to four members, with a computer or laptop per table and permanent teaching support.

The approach is based on learning by doing: combining Short explanations, intensive practice, and challenge solving which increase in complexity as the course progresses.

Calendar, location and course modality

The training begins on Wednesday September 3 and extends to the Wednesday October 8, with weekly meetings in the time slot 18:00 - 20:00. In total they are six theoretical-practical classes two hours each, all at the San Francisco Technoteca.

This structure allows students to move from the basics to a functional project in just a few weeks, closing each module with clear milestones and verifiable.

Contents and tools

During the course, technical material will be used through digital platforms, own teaching resources and different IDEs for programming and debugging the robot. The proposal covers key skills in electronics and programming, in addition to design skills.

  • Basic concepts of electricity and electronics applied to motor control and sensors.
  • Introduction to programming with Arduino and on-board firmware testing.
  • 3D Design and Printing of structural components and parts. 3D printers like the CTC-101 allow the manufacture of adapted parts.
  • Specific regulation of minisumo, design of mechanical components such as Gear and preparation to compete safely.

Link with national competition

The robot developed during the workshop will be ready to participate in the National Robotics League national competition, scheduled for Saturday, October 18 in San FranciscoIn class, the rules and evaluation criteria will be reviewed so that teams arrive familiar with the terrain.

Thus, the itinerary not only culminates with an operational prototype, but connect with a real challenge in which to demonstrate what has been learned in front of other centers.

The initiative is carried out thanks to the joint work of the UTN, the Youth Area and the Municipality of San Francisco, which provides the space and supplies. This allows the workshop to be free and that all teams have materials to make their robots at no cost to families.
