A few days ago we met a very interesting project from the BQ company, it was called the Gaia Project and was trying to bring Free Hardware to Agriculture. We told you that the Project would have more subprojects but we did not specify which ones, they are not yet known, but it is true that Free Hardware and Agriculture have a promising future.
So several users want us to see it, users who create interesting projects like this homemade lettuce grower. Normally, if we cut the base of the romaine lettuce and replant it, leaves sprout again that we can eat. Based on this principle, Evandromiami has created an artifact so that based on hydroponics and Arduino, the growth of these lettuces can be controlled, growing more leaves from a single base.
Evandromiami is working on crops other than lettuce
To carry out this project, Evandromiami used a 5-gallon bucket of water, lettuce seedlings, and sensors that communicated via Bluetooth with an Arduino 101 to modify the environment and make the lettuce regrow as if it were in a garden. This project , although basic, is interesting because the Arduino 101 records the data and sends it to any device , whether a tablet or mobile phone, so the user can make the necessary adjustments. The Arduino 101 also controls the light the plants receive . Evandromiami placed the buckets of water inside a closet so the light and humidity could be easily controlled, but this function can also be changed manually.
In any case, it's paradoxical that hydroponics and Arduino work well together when electricity and electronics don't mix well with water. Nevertheless, here we have a brilliant project that could easily be used in Project Gaia, much like mushroom cultivation. Incidentally, the creator of this lettuce grower is already working with other crops.
