SBC Case Builder: the software to design cases for SBCs and motherboards

SBC Case Builder

The latest version of motherboard case design software, SBC Case Builder v3.0, has been launched with the ability to create more than 1,000 standard cases, not including customizations, for popular and standard motherboards such as Raspberry Pi, Hardkernel, Orange Pi, Radxa, among others, as well as for standard computer motherboards that follow the Mini-ITX, Pico-ITX, NUC, Nano-ITX, etc. standards. A software that you may not have known about, but that can be fantastic support for creating your own box or tower.

This software, which started as a command-line utility for designing DIY cases for SBCs in April 2022, was called OpenSDAD. However, Edward Kisiel (hominoids) quickly created a second version with GUI for ease of use, and finally with new improvements for this version 3.01. The main improvement in this release is the ability to reuse existing and new standard PC form factor cases by creating custom SBC adapters and I/O shields.

Additionally, version 3.0 uses the SBC Model Framework version 2, released in February 2024, which incorporates openings for component-level SBC models in the library. This means that anyone using this SBC Case Builder library for design has access to autonomous openings for the SBC model, including selectable and dynamic openings for the heatsink, GPIO, and UART.

Currently, the SBC Case Builder v3.0 is Compatible with up to 99 devicess, including 70 SBCs, 3 carrier boards, 8 computing modules, 4 microcontroller boards and 14 standard motherboards of the above form factors. For example:

  • ODROID
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Pine
  • ASUS Tinker
  • Orange Pi
  • Nvidia Jetson Nano
  • siped
  • And motherboards with SSI-EEB, SSI-CEB, ATX, Micro-ATX, DTX, Flex-ATX, Mini-DTX, Mini-ITX, Mini-STX, Nano-ITX, NUC, and Pico-ITX form factors
